SUMMER....
BASK
Oh, to bask in warmth and light
instead, relentless wind
assaults the day and stirs the night,
and chills uncovered skin.
The weather doesn't seem to know
it's June, when flowers bloom,
and everything that's trying to grow
needs cheerful sun, not gloom.
At night they'd like refreshing rain,
in daylight, gentle sun,
and then we growers won't complain
that gardening's no fun!
HEATWAVE
For most of June we moaned and shivered,
where has summer gone?
And now the temperature has soared
this very sunny summer morn.
It's hot as hell, the pavement's melting,
flowers fading in the blast.
Windows open, catch that breeze,
summer's come, it's here at last!
Kids in school are tired and grumpy,
teachers too have had enough.
Holiday's three weeks away,
bet by then the weather's rough!
We English like to moan and fuss
about the weather, what it does,
but truthfully, it's always like this,
our crazy climate's what we love!
